About Sara

Sara received her Master’s of Science (MS) in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Texas at Dallas and completed the last year of her degree at Johns Hopkins University. She is currently licensed in the state of Illinois as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and the state of California as a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC). Ever since graduate school, she has had a special interest in helping couples and relationships, which is why she has dedicated her career to this specialization. She is an active member of the Illinois Mental Health Counseling Association (IMHCA) and the Illinois Counseling Association (ICA).

Experience

Sara has prior therapy experience in Texas and Maryland, where she worked in community mental health clinics serving many backgrounds and presenting issues, including working with couples, families, and individuals. However, she has always dedicated time to couples, as she knew this was going to be her sole specialty that she genuinely enjoys. After moving to Illinois, Sara worked for two private practices in Chicago, serving couples and relationships before starting her very own couples clinic!

Therapeutic Approach

Utilizing eclectic approaches including evidenced-based Gottman techniques and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Sara helps couples by fostering communication, managing conflict, and rebuilding the foundations of friendship that are vital to the success of any union. Being an eclectic therapist, she will meet the needs of the couple by employing the necessary theoretical techniques or approaches to help clients reach their goals.

Training

Sara has completed advanced post-graduate training and continuing education in couple’s therapy, which reflects her commitment to providing the highest quality of care. She has achieved Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 certifications in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, an approach from relationship psychologist Dr. John Gottman. Additionally, she has pursued extensive training in Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT/EFCT), including completing an EFCT externship!

Furthermore, Sara is dedicated to staying abreast of the latest research and information in the couple’s therapy field. She regularly attends workshops and seminars, which allow her to incorporate the most effective and evidence-based practices into her therapy.
